Orange police were called three times early Sunday morning because of disturbances near the 2200 block of Eighth Street in the Brownwood neighborhood. On the third call, a 16-year-old was reported injured and suffered scrapes and scratches.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said people involved with the two feuding groups had out-of-town relatives visiting. They had been cooking and partying during the day. He said the people are not cooperating with a police investigation.
When the first call came at 12:13 a.m., gun shots had been heard in the area. Patrol Officer Lovelace reported he took several statements concerning damage to vehicles.
Police went back at 1:40 a.m. and Lieutenant G.D. Keaton described the event as a “large disturbance.” He said people from both groups were warned about their language. One man ended up being arrested for misdemeanor disorderly conduct because of cursing after he was advised to be quiet.
At 2:15 a.m. police were called again. They stopped a pickup truck traveling on Bob Hall Road with a man and a woman who lived at the house in the 2200 block of Eighth Street that was the center of the disputes. They told police the man had been chased in their yard by another man who had a shovel. They said the 16-year-old boy with them had been hit by a woman with an object and another woman with a pole.
Police report the youth, who is from Louisiana, had small scrapes and scratches, plus he was complaining of pain in his head and right elbow. He refused an ambulance.
