Orange County Health Inspector James Scales gave three perfect scores, two to day care centers, during December. The lowest score of his 12 inspections was an 85 and went to the McDonald’s on Texas Avenue in Bridge City.
The perfect scores went to Smoothie King on Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange, Kircle K Kiddie Ranch on Highway 62 in Orange, and Just for Kids Daycare on East Roundbunch Road in Bridge City. Scales also reported the Turning Point Church in Vidor had no violations during an inspection for the soup kitchen.
Scales made pre-opening inspections with no scores at Texas Barbecue Co. on North Main Street in Vidor and JJ Wings and Seafood on MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst.
Other scores and demerits are:
Burger King, 605 North Main Street in Vidor: 98. Vents above the fryers needed to be cleaned of old grease. Food warmers needed to be cleaned. Floors needed to be cleaned more often. Floors in the walk-in freezer were rusted and needed repairs. Floors inside the walk-in cooler needed repairs. Several damaged ceiling tiles were in the dining room.
Wendy’s, 3113 Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange: 95. Hand-washing sinks did not have hot water. Plumber was called immediately. Employees were using the sinks without the required hot water. Air vents were rusted and needed to be repaired. Support lines in the ceiling lines near the three-compartment sinks were rusted and needed repairs.
Little Caesar’s Pizza, 2421 16th Street in Orange: 92. An employee was found wearing painted artificial nails, storage shelves and oven needed to be cleaned of old foods. Clean dishes were found with old food on them. Walls, floors and the outside of all equipment needed to be cleaned of old foods. Damaged and broken dishes were on the shelves and needed to be removed or replaced. Inspector said “lots of cleaning required at this location.” Store needed to post latest food service permit, the certified food manager certification and current inspection report.
Star Stop/Exxon Deli, 1415 16th Street in Orange: 89. Store name and address were needed on bags of ice being sold. Inspector found several expired foods on shelves, some dating to 2014. Mold was on the slushy machine. An ice scoop was on top of the ice machine. The walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned and organized. Mop heads were inside the compartment dish sink and should be at the mop sink. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler.
Subway, 1090 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 88. Chemicals were stored next to cutting equipment. Cutting boards on the main serving line had deep cuts and needed to be repaired or replaced. Several employees had improper jewelry on nose, eyes and mouth. An employee jacked was on some packaged foods on shelves. Floors behind and around equipment needed to be cleaned of old dirt and foods. Mold was inside the ice machine and inside the ice container at the drive-through window. Light shield was needed above the drive-through window.
McDonald’s, 755 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 85. Liquid and shell eggs were left on counter at room temperature. Expired milk and coffee were found. Equipment including warmers, cold coffee machines and the inside of all coolers needed to be cleaned of old foods. Dishes were sitting inside the hand-washing sink. Employee drinks and two pizza boxes were inside coolers. Floors, tops of equipment and storage shelves needed to be cleaned of old foods. Light shields needed. Wall needed to be repaired in the back storage room.
