The board of the Orange County Emergency Services District No. 4 has named James Journeay as interim fire chief after demoting the previous chief. The ESD No. 4 serves the Mauriceville and McLewis communities.
Board President Spencer Fuss said the two communities once had two separate fire departments. More than two years ago, the ESD board combined the two departments and the ESD now has a North Station and a South Station. When the two fire departments combined, the board named David Roberts, who had been chief of the McLewis Volunteer Fire Department, as chief of the new department.
“We weren’t seeing the progress we wanted to see as an ESD,” Fuss said. Roberts was demoted to firefighter and the board promoted Journeay, who had previously been chief of the Mauriceville Volunteer Fire Department.
Fuss said the ESD board has not received any resignations of firefighters as of Thursday morning.
