West Orange and other local municipalities got some good news Monday concerning a rate increase in utilities. Mayor Roy McDonald shared the good news that he received a certified letter Monday stating that Entergy and its mother company ETI had withdrawn their filing for a rate increase with the Public Utility Commission. McDonald reminded that two weeks ago the West Orange City Council did like several other councils and suspended the rate increase for 90 days, but added that the increase is now null and void they’re not going to have that.
In other business the West Orange City Council approved Police Chief Mike Stelly as the city’s nominee for the Board of Trustees of the Texas Municipal League in Region 16. The Council also approved re-nominating the current members of the Board of Directors for the Orange County Appraisal District. Piney Woods Sanitation was awarded a solid waste collection franchise for West Orange which will allow them to have dumpsters at businesses in the city. Sandersen Knox & Company was awarded the contract to audit the city for one year with an option for two additional years.
