Students, parents, and teachers got to honor the service of veterans during a program at the Little Cypress Intermediate School Monday. Salute to Our Veterans was held in the school’s cafetorium with about 50 veterans in attendance.
Kelly Meadows with the school coordinated the program which is the fifth such tribute to veterans done by Little Cypress Intermediate. Meadows said the program is to say thank you to veterans and their families for their sacrifice. She added the salute to the veterans is also to encourage students to consider serving their country in the military for their future as well.
The school’s fifth grade choir performed For the Good of the Many while slides of veterans were projected on a screen. Each veteran was introduced by one of the students. County Judge Brint Carlton who is a major in the Air Force Reserve gave an inspirational talk about leadership which all veterans exhibit by their service. The program concluded with a stirring performance of taps by Tommy Holland and Logan Comeaux on trumpets.
County Commissioner David Dubose is a veteran and attended the program. Dubose stated that he was moved by the tribute and the show of support for veterans which was an honor for him, his father who served in World War II, and his father-in-law who also served in World War II. Dubose expressed, “This is a great day in honoring all veterans, and I appreciate it.”
