March 12, 2016 Adult Studio Art Workshop
Make plans to attend the Stark Museum of Art’s Adult Studio Art Workshop, Saturday March 12th from 1-5 pm, as special guest Joyce Philen teaches “Hand-Building With Clay.” She is a life-long artist from southeast Texas with an appreciation of creative expression in all art forms. Learn to see art through the artist’s eyes. Cost is $25 for Stark Cultural Venues members and $35 for non-members. All materials are provided. Must be 14 years of age or older to participate. March 16, 2016 CREATE! Workshop: Sketch ‘N’ Etc
Save the date and come Create! The Stark Museum of Art invites you to a unique, hands-on studio experience! Enjoy a Museum visit where you will look closely, discussing and interpreting a work of art in a two hour studio art intensive. Etch on glass at the Stark Museum of Art’s CREATE! Workshop, Wednesday, March 16 at 10:30am-12:30pm! Learn how to design your own custom adhesive stencil or freehand a design using a wax technique. Glass will be provided. March 17, 2016 Third Thursday: Art After Dark
Families, bring the kids for a free night at the Stark Museum of Art at “Third Thursday: Art After Dark,” March 17, from 5-7 pm. Enjoy displays of student artwork, art activities for all ages and interactive demonstrations by local artist, Bridge City ISD’s Debbie Gregg who will introduce fun with scratch boards. Orange County students wearing their school colors receive free admission. For parents, grandparents and other friends Third Thursdays are included with general admission. March 12, 2016 Second Saturday Specialty Tours
Come and enjoy “Second Saturday Specialty Tours” at The W.H. Stark House on March 12. Take this opportunity to study History and the Historical role of the Stark and Lutcher families with a unique specialty tour. Staff will lead you through, and provide additional information not available on the standard tour. The W.H. Stark House will come alive with the music of the early 20th century as this tour features a piano performance on the Stark’s Steinway piano. Music was an important part of the Starks’ lives, and it’s the focus of the March Specialty Tour program. The exhibition also features rarely displayed objects from the Stark House collection like memorabilia from the Bengal Guards and historic photographs and documents. The tour will feature a piano performance on the Stark’s Steinway piano. Tours at 10am, 11am and 12 Noon. Included with general admission. Stark Cultural Members are free. Come along on a giant “Bug Safari” for the Saturday Adventure Series at Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center. On March 12 from 10-11am head out to the Gardens to enjoy David Rogers’ Big Bugs exhibition. During this family event, learn fun facts about the insects that have taken over the garden and hunt for their living counterparts among the plants and flowers. Included with general admission. March 19, 2016 Saturday Adventure Series: Acro’bats’ Bats That Eat Bugs
Make plans to visit Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center on March 19 for the “Saturday Adventure Series: Acro’bats’ Bats That Eat Bugs”! Around here, bats provide all-natural pest control. One bat can eat up to 600 mosquitoes in one hour! During this event for all ages, discover how local bat species use echolocation and some interesting flying techniques to capture and eat bugs. Stage, film, and TV star, Kristin Chenoweth brings her Broadway hit voice to dazzle with stories and song on March 16 at the Lutcher Theater. An Emmy and Tony award winning actress and singer, Ms. Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda, the Good Witch, in Wicked and lit up McKinley High on Fox’s hit comedy, Glee. Saturday Night Fever is one of the most beloved dance stories of all time, and will be at the Lutcher Theater March 29-30. It is the coming of age tale of young Tony Manero who learns the value of life in 1970’s Brooklyn. Based on the 1977 movie starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees, including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “Jive Talking,” “You Should Be Dancing,” and “How Deep is Your Love”!
