A successful search for a pair of stolen pit bull dogs may not lead to the return of the canines. A resident called Orange police at 6:45 p.m. Monday to report that he had found a stolen male and female in the yard of a house on Hart Avenue. The man told Officer Isaac Henry that he had been looking for the dogs since they were stolen seven weeks ago.
Officer Henry reported the resident at the house refused to give a statement or cooperate.
On Tuesday, Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said it is hard to prove the ownership of a dog unless it has a microchip or distinctive marks that the owner can show in a photograph. In addition, law officers have a difficulty placing a value on a dog for a theft charge unless the dog is registered with the American Kennel Club.
Detectives however are investigating the theft allegations concerning the pit bulls.
