There is a special zoo in Orange County. It is a place to feed a big sulcate tortoise, see exotic birds, or pet a friendly ground hog.
The Kingdom Zoo is based in Pinehurst, but it reaches out to kids who have a terminal illness or have lost a parent or sibling. The founder of Kingdom Zoo is Chester Moore a noted local wildlife specialist.
Moore works with kids in the foster system and is known for granting “Wild Wishes” to children touched by terminal illnesses. Moore and his wife Lisa have granted 100 such requests.
The Kingdom Zoo will hold a special program later in October as part of this year’s Fall Festival in Pinehurst. “It will be the Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Day and Fall Festival. It’s going to have all the games and candy of a Fall Festival, and have the added attraction of animal encounters, so it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Moore promised.
The Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Day and Fall Festival will be held Saturday, October 26, at West Park on Park Avenue in Pinehurst. The festival will be from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Children of all ages are invited to attend.
