Grandview freshman phenom Madi Doty showed off her pitching and hitting Friday night but it was not without a fight from the Orangefield Bobcats.
The game was scoreless going into the fifth inning. Bobcat pitcher Abigail Curphy went toe to toe with Doty in a pitchers dual. But Grandview would show why they’re ranked number one in a 5-0 victory in a game played in Navasota.
Doty pitched a one hitter and struck out six in six innings. Caydin Blackmon pitched a 1-2-3 seventh. Doty also put the Zebras ahead in the fifth with a solo home run.
Then in the sixth they would tack on four more on a two run homerun and then back to back scoring doubles, one by Doty who finished 3-3 with 2RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
Curphy gave up five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks. She had only given up three singles before the homerun to lead off the fifth.
“She pitched her butt off,” said Coach Rebekah Ragsdale. “I think she made just two mistakes and both unfortunately turned out to be homeruns. And that was the report on Grandview, a good hitting team that’ll make you pay for mistakes.”
The Bobcats had an opportunity to score in the sixth. With two out, Halle Becker singled on a bunt. Aubree Beck then reached on an error. And Harleigh Rawls walked to load the bases. Charlee Sanches then put the ball in play, but a nice glove and throw to first by the second baseman ended the inning.
The Lady Bobcats made history this season, reaching the fourth round for the first time. And losing only two seniors, they should be seasoned to make another long run next year.
