Orange County Constable Lannie Claybar says, “It happens every day—but an uptick of *JUGGING* occurs during the holidays. Beware and use your best judgement.”
It’s the common term used to describe a criminal practice in which suspects watch customers of banks, credit unions, check cashing establishments, etc. The suspects target people they believe are in possession of cash and look for an opportunity to burglarize their vehicles or rob them directly.
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF IF YOU’RE DOING THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS:
–Occupied vehicles backed into parking spaces with clear view of the front doors of the establishment, ATM or commercial drive thru line
–Vehicles with dark tinted windows with little or no visibility of the occupants
–Vehicles arriving at the place with no occupants entering the business
–Vehicles changing parking spaces
–Vehicles with multiple occupants
HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?
BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
—Conceal money before leaving an establishment. Never openly carry bank bags, envelopes or cash boxes.
—Pay attention to anyone following you from the area of the business.
—If you suspect you are being targeted, call 911 from your cell phone and keep the dispatcher informed of your location, the direction you are traveling, and drive until Law Enforcement is able to locate you. An alternative may be to drive directly to a Law Enforcement station.
—Vary your routes periodically
—Do not leave or try to hide your bank bag, envelope, cash box, etc. inside your vehicle when you exit at your next destination, even if it’s your residence or business.
