After eleven years as the head boys basketball coach at Orangefield, Rea Wrinkle is moving up to an administration position. Wrinkle is the new Assistant Principal at OF Junior High. Wrinkle, who was also an assistant football coach, said he will miss walking the sidelines. “I appreciate the opportunity but I will miss coaching,” he said. “But in my new position and my kids playing sports, I’ll still get to be around the game.”
Athletic Director Josh Smalley said he is currently taking applications for the coaching position.
Smalley told KOGT that they have hired V.J. Bunner as an assistant coach. The former Vidor and Lamar baseball standout was an assistant baseball coach on the Jasper staff last season. He will join new OF Head Baseball Coach Tim Erickson who came over from Hardin-Jefferson.
Another coach also left the sidelines to go into administration. Brett McPhatter, who has been an assistant at West Orange-Stark and most recently Port Neches-Groves, is the new Assistant Principal at Orangefield High School. McPhatter, 32, is an Orangefield grad.
