After missing their first three games because of the Coronavirus and Hurricane Laura, the West Orange-Stark showed little rust in a 70-0 shellacking of the Newton Eagles.
WOS set the tone early scoring scoring every time they had the ball in the first half.
They drove 86 yards on their first drive and scored on a 21 yard throw from Jarren Terrell for Jalen Thompson.
The defense gave them a short field on their second drive, starting at the Newton 34. Elijah Gales took it over from 15 yds. out for the score.
Following the Angel Ibarra point after, kicker Miguel Villeda made the highlight reel. He kicked off to the Eagles, ran down field and picked up an Eagle fumble and scored to make it 21-0 with 19 seconds left in the first quarter.
Jalen Thompson would score his second TD on a 66 yd pass from Terrell and then Terrell hooked up with Gales from 26 to make it 35-0 at the half.
After shining in the first half, the defense took over in the second half. Holding Newton to 52 yards of offense in the first two quarters, WOS allowed just 11 yards in the second half. The Eagles had just three first downs in the game.
The Mustang “O” rolled up 430 yds. of offense with 269 coming through the air. Terrell was 9-14 for 209 and three scores. Jason Zeigler was 2-3 for 69 yds. and one touchdown. Gales led the ground game with 101 yds. and two scores.
WOS (1-0) will travel to Hamshire-Fannett in the district opener next week.
