The beat down goes on as the West Orange-Stark Mustangs continued to roll up lopsided wins again on Friday night. The Mustangs mauled the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks 62-0 at Hawk Stadium.
Coming into the game averaging over 52 points a game and allowing only three, West Orange-Stark (8-0, 2-0) has outscored its two district opponents 130-0. Hardin-Jefferson (4-2, 0-1) lost their district opener and suffered only its second loss of the season.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Mustangs galloped to a 21-0 advantage in the first nine minutes scoring on their first three possessions. Jack Dallas hooked up with K. J. Miller on the first play from scrimmage for 47 yards to the Hawks’ 15. Jeremiah Shaw gave WO-S a first-and-goal at the five with a short run.
A procedure penalty moved the ball back to the ten. Miller picked up 8 yards on a run before Mandel Turner-King powered over from the two for his first career Mustang touchdown. The point after was missed, but the Mustangs led 6-0 with just over two minutes gone in the game.
Ronald Carter picked up an H-J fumble and rambled 40 yards to give West Orange-Stark a first down at the Hawks’ 13. Miller made a beautiful leaping catch at the one on first down and stretched the ball over the goal line for the touchdown. Miller converted the two-point conversion on an end around to make the score 14-0 with still 6:48 to play in the first quarter.
It took only four plays on the Mustangs’ next possession to go up by three scores. Shaw gained seven yards on the first play. After an incompleted pass Keion Hancock ran for 15 yards and a first down to the H-J 29. Kavyn Cooper scored from there on the next play with 3:20 still left in the first.
West Orange-Stark did not score again until late in the half when it took over following a punt at midfield. Miller took a reverse 31 yards to the 19. Two passes from Dallas to Miller netted the six points with 46 seconds left in the half. Miller caught five passes for 82 yards and ran the ball three times for 45 yards. Chad Dallas’ kick made it 28-0.
The second half started much as the first half did with WO-S reeling off 20 points in the third quarter. A bad snap on an attempted Hardin-Jefferson punt gave the Mustangs the ball at the Hawks’ one. Turner-King scored on the next play to make it 35-0 with less than two minutes gone in the half.
It quickly got to 42-0 when Teshaun Teel intercepted a pass and returned it 34 yards for another Mustangs’ score. Paulino Santos made the point after.
Shaw went over 100 yards on the night with four straight carries late in the third quarter. He finished the night with 108 yards on 12 carries. That set the stage for Dallas to pass 6 yards to B. B. Tezeno for the touchdown as the third quarter ended. Dallas completed 8 of 12 passes for 88 yards on the night good for three touchdowns.
Cooper closed out the scoring with two touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. The first was from seven yards out and the last was a beauty of 46 yards. Santos made the kick after both scores. Cooper also went over the century mark on the ground with 107 yards on 6 carries to go with his three touchdowns.
The Mustangs registered their sixth shutout of the season. The Chain Gang was extremely stingy yielding only six first downs and just 21 yards total offense to the Hawks while the offense rolled up 389.
Next week is the open week for West Orange-Stark. The Mustangs return to action Friday, October 28, at home against the Liberty Panthers. Hardin-Jefferson plays at Liberty next Friday night.
