Friday morning the woman that most people assumed was homeless because she was seen on 16th St. in Orange all day with her belongings in a shopping cart, was found dead near the former Family Dollar store.
Orange Police said a man had dropped off a bottle of water to her, assuming she was sleeping. He returned later and noticed she had not moved.

Capt. Keith Longlois said they kept tabs on Shantel Jordan, and although she had a house where she could stay, she always said it was her plan to live on the streets and that she was there by her choice. She was known for staying on the street between McDonald’s and Kroger but recently moved her belongings to Popeye’s on Link Ave. after they closed.
Saturday morning someone had left a balloon as a memorial tribute where she was found. Over the years many people reached out to help her with food, chairs and blankets but she preferred to be left alone.
Longlois said an autopsy was ordered. He said with his experience in law enforcement, he did not see anything that pointed to foul play.
