Update: Woman has been identified as Samantha Townsend.
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 5:39 PM the Vidor Police Department received a call of a reckless vehicle that was described as a maroon Tahoe traveling Northbound in the 1400 block of N. Main, Vidor, Texas. At 5:40 PM the caller advised that the Tahoe had just struck a Nissan Rogue in the 1500 Block of North Main head-on. Upon Officers arrival they found both drivers unconscious. Officers realized that the driver of the Nissan that was Southbound was not breathing. Officers immediately removed her from the vehicle and initiated life sustaining medical care. Unfortunately, their efforts were not successful, and the victim was declared deceased by Acadian Ambulance Service on-scene.
The investigation shows that the Tahoe was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when it crossed into the Southbound Lane and struck the other SUV.
The driver of the Tahoe was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in serious condition. A toddler that was in the Nissan traveling Southbound that was restrained in a safety seat was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth in non-life-threatening condition.
The collision is under investigation by the Vidor PD Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit. Justice of the Peace Chad Jenkins arrived on-scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
The name of the victim will be released on Monday 27, 2024.
