Quintavius Garrett was stabbed in the arms and legs. Orange Police Captain Robert Enmon said the injuries were not life threatening.
Police were called at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday to a house in the 1000 block of Ruby Lane in the Clairmont neighborhood. Garrett was in the passenger seat of a car after being driven to the location.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with Justice of the Peace David Peck, Joseph said she was asleep when Garrett knocked on the door. She went half asleep to the door and opened it, without knowing who was there. He pushed his way inside.
She said Garrett began hitting and scratching her and wouldn’t let her get away. When she tried to phone for help, he knocked the phone out of her hand. During the fracas, Garrett picked up the infant and was holding the baby girl.
Joseph said she managed to get outside and yelled for someone to call 9-1-1. A neighbor told Officer J.A. Goins that she allowed Joseph and Garrett, with the baby, into her apartment. The neighbor grabbed the baby from Garrett.
Joseph and Garrett went into the kitchen of the neighbor’s apartment. The neighbor said Joseph was grabbing and scratching at Garrett. Garrett was telling her “I eat licks,” referring to the hitting. The neighbor saw Joseph pick up two kitchen knives and begin stabbing Garrett.
Officer Goins said Joseph told her that she stabbed Garrett in self defense. Joseph said she left the house with the baby and threw the knives in the yard. Officer Goins reported finding the knives in a trash can on the sidewalk in front of the apartment.
