The West Orange City Council unanimously approved Randy Branch as its newest member on Monday. Mayor Roy McDonald made the appointment of Branch after interviewing four nominees given to him by council members about a month ago.
Rev. Branch serves as the pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Orange. He has lived in West Orange for more than forty years and previously worked at Dupont for 35 years.
Thoughts occasionally crossed Branch’s mind to serve on the City Council, but the call from the mayor was the push he needed to go for it. “I thought it would be good to be a little more civic minded than I have in the past,” Branch admitted.
The appointment of Branch fills a vacancy left by the resignation of Carl Thibodeaux from the council in June. Thibodeaux resigned to take the Municipal Judge’s position for the City of West Orange.
