The City of West Orange proposes keeping the same tax rate as last year after the City Council met Monday evening. Mayor Roy McDonald is pleased with the city’s proposed budget and not raising taxes for West Orange. McDonald indicated that the budget is about the same as last year and will be a tight ship next fiscal year, but includes some capital improvements for new equipment and an across the board 2 percent pay increase for city employees. The mayor is especially proud the city is not increasing its tax rate of 42.5 cents per $100 valuation.
The council set the dates for two public hearings on the tax rate: Thursday, August 27, and Monday, August 31. Both public hearings will start at 5:30 in the evening. A public hearing on the approximately $3.4 million proposed budget will be held as part of the next city council meeting on August 24. The City Council will vote to approve the 42.5 cents tax rate and the 2015-2016 budget on Tuesday, September 8.
