The City of West Orange has waited over two months for a municipal audit from the accounting firm of Sandersen and Scheffer, but has still not received a completed audit. The City Council in West Orange met a called session Friday morning with City Attorney Rex Peveto to discuss the city’s contract with the accounting firm.
Mayor Roy McDonald explained that the city has been very patiently waiting for the final audit to be completed. The mayor even went with City Secretary Theresa Van Meter to Sugar Land to speak to accountant Alan Sandersen in person to clarify any details needed to finish the audit. After the closed session with counselor Peveto the City Council voted unanimously to terminate the contract with Sandersen.
During the two months of waiting for the audit Mike Stelly, who serves as the public works director, and Van Meter have been looking for other accountants to perform the audit. McDonald said the city will now turn to Stelly and Van Meter to find a new accountant to perform the audit for 2016. After that McDonald informed that the City of West Orange will go out for bids for a new auditor to perform the audit in Fiscal Year 2017.
