On March 5, 2019 at 7:16 am emergency crews responded to a traffic accident in the 4700 block of Old Highway 90 in Orange, Texas. The accident involved a 2018 white Ford F-150 pick-up truck and a 2017 green Freightliner garbage truck operated by Waste Management.
The driver of the pick-up truck was a fifty-eight year old man from Orange, Texas. The Waste Management truck was crewed by three people. A forty-two year old female driver, and two men aged thirty and forty working at the rear of the vehicle.
The Waste Management truck was moving east in the 4700 block of Old Highway 90, along a normal service route. The two men working at the rear of the truck observed the pick-up truck approaching from behind. They realized that a collision was imminent and jumped clear of the vehicles. At the instant of the collision the forty year old male, who had jumped away, was struck by a piece of flying debris. This resulted in a severe injury to his lower leg. The injured man was transported by Acadian EMS to a local hospital. There were no other injuries as a result of the accident.
The accident is under investigation by the Orange Police Department
