
Construction and remodeling has finally slowed in the city of Orange after Tropical Storm Harvey. Only four residential remodelings were filed and the largest permit was for the one new house being built.
The new house is valued at $208,000 and is being built in the Cypresswood subdivision off Highway 87 South.
The most valuable industrial-commercial project was for $125,975 for a new roof at the Akrotex building, 4000 Tulane Drive.
The old Super Food Mart and Laundrymat at 1519 37th Street is being demolished. Also, a commercial demolition permit for 1408 10th Street was issued.
The four residential remodelings were valued at a total of $26,313. In addition, two permits were issued for residential storage buildings worth a total of $19,371.
Commercial reroofing projects totaled $21,000 for 1610 Park Avenue and 1955 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Certificates of occupancy were issued to Aras Development for 119 Fifth Street, also known as the Southern Printers Building. The occupancy certificate was for Parlour Hair Boutique and Global Green.
Only two commercial permits were issued. One is for a $1,000 gazebo at Days Inn, 2630 Interstate 10. The other is for the installation of four mobile examination centers at the former Baptist Hospital.
Three permits worth a total of $22,417 were issued for residential garages and carports.
The three commercial mechanical permits went to C&B Plaze, 1707 16th Street, for $10,500 on new air conditioning. Also, a $15,000 air conditioner was installed at Sunset Grove Country Club, and the Pilot Travel Center got a $6,000 permit for duct work.
A multi-residential permit for $8,000 of mechanical work went to Oakwood Village, 1521 37th Street. Two regular residential mechanical permits valued at a total of $11,000 were for new houses in Cypresswood Village.
