Two district wins were needed for the Deweyville Pirates to make the post season this year. Last week Deweyville got that important first one, and Coach Lance Dale is getting the Pirates ready for the next step. Dale points out the Pirates will be looking for victory in their two remaining games, but a win in one of them puts Deweyville in the playoffs. He agrees the win over West Hardin last Friday was an important step to making the playoffs.
Next are the West Sabine Tigers. Dale states without question how West Sabine quarterback Demarie’ Smith goes so go the Tigers on offense. Smith is fast, very agile; he is the best player for West Sabine and is the difference maker. The Tigers run two tight ends and a double wing formation. West Sabine runs a lot of counters, but will shift to the Spread and show three wide receivers. Coach Dale believes it will be an exciting game Friday night.
Deweyville wants to control the ball and the clock against West Sabine. Coach Dale analyzes the Tigers’ defense. West Sabine will show a couple of different looks and base out of a 4-2-5. Against Deweyville’s wing set Dale expects the Tigers to run a weak Shade 50 and will shift their defensive linemen to stop the traps and counter plays. They have good linebackers, and Smith at free safety comes up in a hurry to make tackles.
A trip to the playoffs will be on the line for Deweyville Friday night. Dale provides the keys for a Pirate victory. Deweyville must control the line of scrimmage and run the football. When the Pirates pass they must make it count. Defensively the Pirates must stop Smith, they have to tackle him, wrap him up, and the Pirates’ ends must stay home to cut down on reverses that the Tigers like to run according to Dale.
There should be a playoff atmosphere at Pirate Stadium Friday night. Coach Dale emphasizes the most important key for the Pirates is believing in themselves and executing the game plan the coaches have prepared for beating the West Sabine Tigers.
The Pirates play West Sabine Friday night at Deweyville. This key district ball game kicks off at 7:00 PM at Pirate Stadium.
