Services for Mr. Harold Fite, 96, of Pasadena, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline, with Bro. Jerry Fite officiating. Interment will follow in Sand Flat Cemetery.
William Harold Fite was born in Grand Saline, Texas on October 25, 1928. He peacefully passed from this life in the comforting home of his daughter, Christie Stewart, and her husband Barry, on the evening of January 8, 2025.
Harold Fite is preceded in death by his father and mother, William Carroll Fite and Gladys Gandy Fite. A baby brother (Jerry Fite) preceded Harold in death, along with three sisters, Virginia Enloe, Sherry Maxwell, and Sue Smith. Harold experienced the sorrow of having two grandchildren precede him in death, Andrew Stewart, and Nicolas Stewart. Six months ago, he lost the love of his life, his wife of 77 years, Norma Jean Guthrie Fite. They both were preceded in death by their infant baby boy who lived only one and a half hours.
Harold Fite in his death is survived by one brother, Monte Fite. He is also survived by two children, Christie Stewart with her husband Barry and Jerry Fite with his wife Kathy. Harold is survived by four grandchildren: Alicia Weir with her husband Derrick Weir, Blake Fite, Maeretha Wilburn with her husband Corey, and Matthew Stewart with his wife, Jordana. He is also survived by 14 great- grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Harold Fite lived a full life of 96 years. He experienced the combination of being a “farm boy” and a “city boy”. He was born on rented farmland in the same room of the frame house in which his father, Caroll, was born. At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Dallas to begin his critical formative years. He witnessed and embraced hard work learned from the farm and enjoyed the camaraderie of newly found friends in the city.
In Dallas, he worked for Sherwin Williams Paint Company, and Otis Elevators before turning to his greater life-long work: the faithful proclamation of the Gospel of Christ. For over six decades Harold Fite preached the inspired word of God throughout the States and evangelized beyond, in Italy. He was busy preaching for extended periods of time in Irving Texas, Bridge City, Texas, Fort Worth, Texas, Lubbock, Texas, Houston, Texas, and in Mountain View, Arkansas. Harold Fite also used his abilities to author articles for various circulated brotherhood papers.
He was always working to gain knowledge, improve health, and sharpen skills. In dying to self, his new life was Christ. Serving Christ as a husband and father brought honor to him from his immediate and extended family. Preaching Christ blessed his life in saving souls, with taught people who still appreciate him and his teaching though now silenced by death. Harold Fite still speaks by his example and his one hope of heaven. The family will receive friends 10 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
