Wilbert Hearn Linscomb fought a good fight and the race ended on September 8, 2022. He was born in Hartburg, Texas on October 15, 1932, to parents, Neil and Sarah Linscomb.
He was full of laughs and a true jokester to his family and friends. Wilbert graduated from Deweyville High School. He later received certifications for water and radiation levels from the University of Houston and Texas A&M University. Working for the Texas Highway Department for 36 years, he earned his retirement in 1987. The entire crew during his many years knew him as “Uncle Bub.” After retirement, he and his wife traveled the United States and Mexico. With a passion to fish and camp, he made numerous trips to the river with his brothers and family. Living in Hartburg all of his life, Wilbert attended Hartburg Bapstist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Sarah Linscomb; his beloved son, Randy Linscomb; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Bessie Linscomb, James and Georgia Linscomb, Floyd and Mary Linscomb, Earnest and Evie Linscomb, and Wesley and Evie Linscomb; his sister and brother-in-law, Emily and J.R. Ferguson; as well as other family members-in-law, Avis and Grover Smith, Larry Smith, Olen Smith, and Dorothy and Floyd Spurgeron.
Those left to cherish Wilbert’s memory are his loving wife of almost 68 years, Mayva Jean Smith Linscomb; his daughters, Sherry Linscomb and Debbie Horton; his son, Roger Linscomb and wife Beth; three grandchildren, Michael, Mallory, and Lara; five step-grandchildren, Robert, Clayton, Chad, Adam, and Amos; his twin sister, Wilmer Linscomb; family members-in-law, Dale and Patty Smith, Gwendolyn and Bobby Vaught, Alice Smith, and Sandra Smith; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Hartburg Baptist Church. Officiating will be Brother Timothy Linscomb and Brother John Waggner. Burial will follow at King Cemetery in Hartburg.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Hartburg Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Sanders, Joshua Monteiro, Roger Linscomb, Ryan Douglas Morrell, Brandon Morrell, and Michael Horton. Honorary pallbearers are Texas “Butch” Ferguson, Rocky Linscomb, Ray Lormand, Alan Linscomb, Doug Linscomb, and Floyd Linscomb.
Wilbert’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Nancy, Kendra, Stacy, Karen, Sharon, Brother Waggner, and all of the staff of Kindred Hospice for helping them through this journey.
