The Texas Department of Health in Austin has informed the Orange County Mosquito Control District that the first samples this year of mosquitoes testing positive for the West Nile Virus were found this month. Director Patrick Beebe said the collection of positive mosquitoes were found in the Vidor area on August 2. The collection came from north of I-10, south of Sawmill Rd, east of Hwy. 105, and west of Doty Rd. Beebe said his department will step up treatments in that area.
All county residents are advised to take steps necessary to protect yourselves by wearing repellent with long sleeves, and long pants.
Beebe said his department will continue taking samples and inform the public of all positive tests.
