Following an arrest for DWI, Orangefield ISD School Board Member Marc Wernig stepped down Monday before the board was scheduled to censure him during a school board meeting.
Censure is a reprimand and statement of disapproval. It is not a step toward removing an elected official from office. However Wernig turned in his resignation Monday morning, according to board President Laura Clark.
Wernig was stopped on February 14 and later arrested. It was his second arrest for DWI, the first one coming in 2023 for which he was still out on bond.
Wernig has been on the school board since 2014 in Place 4. The 55 year old is a 1988 Orangefield grad.
The board will meet in early March to find someone to fill what’s left of his term.
