Monday night the Deweyville School Board accepted the resignation of LaJuan Addison as Superintendent and have named Grady Welborn as the lone finalist for the job.
Welborn will leave his current job as the principal of the Bridge City Middle School, a position he’s held since 2022. Addison had taken the job at Deweyville in March 2022.
“I am deeply honored to be named the lone finalist for superintendent at Deweyville ISD,” Welborn said. “I want to thank the board for their trust, my wife and two children for their support, and the Lord for leading me to this moment. I am excited and eager to serve the students and community, and I look forward to working together to build the best future for Deweyville.” Texas requires a 21 day waiting period before the job becomes permanent.
Welborn has been with BCISD since 2018 working as the CTE Coordinator and Asst. Principal. Before that he was a coach/teacher in the Livingston, Fairfield, and Temple School Districts. His first job in education was from 2006-08 at WOS Middle School teaching history and coaching.
He received his Masters from Lamar, his Superintendent Certification from UT Permian Basin and he is currently pursuing his doctorate in history from Liberty University.
“We’re glad to welcome Grady Welborn to Deweyville,” said Board President Luke Smith. “We look forward to working with him and making DISD the best place it can be.”
