
A car traveling north on 16th Street Sunday morning went off the road, hit a utility pole, and rolled over. Orange police report the 24-year-old driver was injured and treated at the scene by Acadian Ambulance. The utility pole was knocked down and electrical power was cut off to a section of town for 5 hours.
The collision was at 9:15 a.m. Sunday by Chapman Avenue in the 1800 block of 16th. Police said Jerquis Jerrod Beasley of Orange was injured. The officer said he had been driving a 1998 Buick Century northbound when it left the roadway and hit the pole. The pole split at the base and the car rolled over.
A shoplifter ran out of Red’s Liquor Saturday night with two, half-gallon bottles of Hennessy cognac. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the bottles are worth $89 each and he believes a suspect has been identified. However, on Monday afternoon, the cognac had not been recovered.
The owner of the store on 16th Street called Orange police at 7:44 p.m. Saturday. The thief was described as a white man wearing a neon green hat, blue jeans and black shoes. After grabbing the bottles, he sprinted out the door and got in the passenger seat of a blue Chevrolet pickup truck.
Police report the truck went east on Barkins next to the store, then went south on Bob Hall Road.
Orange police said a car was hit by a bullet Friday night at the Linkwood Apartments, 1205 Link Avenue. Officers were called to the complex at 11:30 p.m. because of the noise from gunshots.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the driver of the car that was hit did not report the incident until an hour after the initial calls. Investigators have had “limited cooperation” from the driver, Enmon said.
An employee at Motel 6, 4407 North 17th Street reported Saturday at 6:30 p.m. that he had a video of a man stealing an Apple iPad from the front desk.
Police arrested a man passed out on railroad tracks for public intoxication Sunday morning along Highway 90. The officer reported the man had burn marks on his shirt and fingers. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the burn marks are typical of coming from a crack pipe. The arrest was about 10 a.m. in the 5500 block of the highway. The man from Groves was taken to the Orange County Jail for a Class C misdemeanor.
