
An Orange patrol officer made a traffic stop late Saturday night and discovered cocaine smeared on the face of the driver. The officer reported the man told him he tried to eat the drug.
The officer stopped a pickup truck for a brake light not working. The stop was at midnight Saturday in the 1500 block of Park Avenue. According to the police report, the officer saw a waxy, off-white piece of crack cocaine along with a bit of white powder on the middle console of the truck.
The officer also saw the man had a smear on his face of white powder along with a bit of a waxy, off-white substance. The officer had the man spit, and later found crack cocaine inside his mouth.
Clifford Dewayne Wade of Orange was arrested for the state jail felony of possession of a controlled substance. Police took Wade to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur to be medically cleared before taking him to the Orange County Jail.
Orange police made another crack-related arrest Friday night after a traffic stop on a bicyclist. Officers stopped a bike rider traveling without a headlight on at 8:40 p.m. Friday at Second Street and Burton Avenue. The officer reported the bicyclist agreed to be searched. The officer found a rock of crack cocaine in the man’s pocket. Then the officer found crack pipes and another rock of crack in the man’s backpack.
48-year-old James Edward Dews of Orange faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
An employee at Denny’s Restaurant off Interstate 10 at Highway 62 reported a car burglary Friday afternoon. According to Orange police, his fellow workers told him they saw a woman in his car. When he went outside, he saw a woman, who appeared to be intoxicated, walking away from the car. She told him she mistook the car. After she walked away, he noticed items were missing.
