
Week One of the 2025 season is in the books. Let’s take a read at some of the highlights.
Bridge City 46 Buna 14
One of the question marks for BC was at QB after the graduation of Hutch Bearden. Well it was a great start for Hudson Hoffman who accounted for five touchdowns in the Cards road win. He found five different receivers, completing 80% of his passes. Ashton Sumrall rushed for 86 on 12 carries and the Big Red Defense only surrendered 172 total yards . The Cards will host 0-1 Kirbyville Friday at 7:30pm. Kirbyville lost to Shepherd 38-21.

WOS 32 Newton 24
The Mustangs made the comeback of the night and they did it against a State-Ranked team. They were down 18 in the first half before rolling off 26 straight points for the win. Dylan Myers had 106 on 6 carries including a 70 yd. TD. Khelvy Jefferson had 119 total yds. rushing and receiving. The defensive shutout in the second half was lead by Anterrion Fontenot (won’t be the last time we say that) with a dozen tackles and two forced fumbles. Mustangs travel to 1-0 Nederland, who beat Lumberton 6-3 in OT. WOS looking for payback after the Bulldogs scored on the final play to win 14-13 last season.

Orangefield 35 Woodville 14
Bobcats stopped a three game losing streak against the state ranked Eagles. OF jumped out to a 21-7 lead behind the running of Mason Manning, who carried the ball 23 times for 173 yards. QB Carson Gonzales finished with 90 yards rushing 173 yards through the air as the Bobcats were just under 500 yds. of offense on the night. Kaleb Menard led the defensive effort with 15 tackles, one sack, and five pressures, while newcomer Bryce Hooks contributed significantly with four sacks and four quarterback hurries. Orangefield plays host to 0-1 New Waverly Friday in their home opener. NW lost to Teague 38-7.

Deweyville 68 CHEF 8
Deweyville Pirate’s run game was clicking last night with a total of 459 yards. Pirates leading rusher was QB Jaxon Slone with 144 yards on 6 carries and 1TD while Elijah Milton had 82 yards on 4 carries and 2 TD’s. Aiden Kelley had 74 yards on 13 carries and 1 TD. The Pirates are on the road this Friday versus the Cushing Bearkats. Cushing 1-0 beat Colmesneil 8-6.

Hamshire-Fannett 37 LCM 13
The Bears had a hard time stopping HF QB Blake Broussard who was 15-21 for 156 in the air and ran for 159 as the Horns rolled up 400 yds of offense. J’Lynn Morris paced the Bears offense with 122 yds. on 10 carries and a score. Alex Chappell scored the other touchdown. Christian Carrillo led the Bears in tackles. LCM will travel to Silsbee on Friday.

Silsbee 40 Vidor 15
It was a close game at half with the Pirates down 20-15 but the Tigers turned it on in the second half for the 25 point win. Tiger RB Jacaleb Johnson rushed for 152 yards and four TDs. The Pirates will travel all the way to Santa Fe on Friday. The Indians lost to Brazoswood 34-28 Friday. Vidor beat Santa Fe last season 28-14.
