Football season sure does fly by. Here we are in Week 8 and this week’s questions include: Will WOS hand Shepherd their first loss of the season? Who will win the River Bowl between Deweyville and Evadale? And who will be the Homecoming Queen at LCM and Vidor?
Orangefield’s defense is probably licking its chops to face Kirbyville Friday. The Wildcats are one of the few schools in the area that throw more than they run. And they’re not too bad at it as they lead the district with more than 400 yds. of offense per game and they carry three receivers with more than 20 receptions. QB T.J. Allen completes 64 percent of his passes. But the Bobcats have 11 interceptions on the season. And senior Kaleb Menard leads the front end that has recorded 17 sacks. One more note about this game is OF RB Mason Manning is only 47 yds. from breaking a thousand on the season. He’s having another great year.
Bridge City and LCM will have eyes on a game up in the Piney Woods as Kilgore goes to Lindale. Their district (9-4A) will face the top four from our 10-4A in the Bi-District round of the D1 playoffs. Tough district as James Reyes has found out. The former Lumberton coach who got the L Train rolling, is now at Palestine learning how tough the district is. They’re 0-7 this season and 1-16 in his tenure. Surprisingly, Gilmer is having a rare losing season. They have had a brutal schedule. But they’re 2-4 and listed as an underdog against Van on Friday.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has some interesting predictions this week. Just for fun make your fake bets and let’s see how we do. Anderson (-73) vs. Cedar Creek, Randle (-74) vs Baytown Lee, Spring Westfield (-76) vs Aldine, Sunnyvale (-79) vs Kemp, Springtown (-81) vs. Hill-Jarvis, and Bastrop (-83) vs. Navarro. Good luck!
