The JV “White” Bobcats were back in the primetime slot again for their return to the friendly confines of F.L. McClain Stadium to take on the Longhorns of Hamshire-Fannett.
The Longhorns came out dealing behind a strong-armed quarterback and promptly worked the ball down the field, but the Bobcats soon remembered you can’t shut a team out if you don’t stand up on every drive. The Orange Crush defense found their footing and Mikey “Baby Prime” Lecea grabbed a clutch interception on 4th-and-goal that moved the ball out of the shadow of their own goal post and out to the 20 yard line.
The Bobcat offense took over and were moving the ball well before turning it over as the ball carrier had a Horn helmet strike it flush sending it hurtling through the air and eventually into the waiting arms of a defender.
H-F took the ball with good field position, but Big Max Sampson and his defense shut them down once again forcing a punt. The Bobcat offense took over to start the second quarter and went on a long scoring drive behind some fierce running from Dacius Lytle. After the Lytle touchdown, Keaton Beatros was found wide open in the corner of the endzone for a 2 point conversion.
Hamshire-Fannett, trailing 8-0 to begin the second half, was forced to kick off to the Bobcats and Orangefield picked up right where they left off. Quarterback Lynkon Delcambre led the offense on another methodical drive that was kept alive by a big 4th down conversion. That play saw Logan Bouillon catch a well thrown comeback at the sticks to give the Bobcats another first down.
After picking significant yardage on a facemask penalty, Bryce Hooks took a sweep 17 yards around the left side for another Orangefield touchdown. The kicking team rolled out and executed a second fake as the holder went sprinting outside of the formation and Delcambre took a surprise snap up the gut to make the score 16-0 in favor of the home team.
The defense hit the field in the second half and suffocated the Horns with pressure from every direction making it very difficult for their passing game as they did all night. When the dust settled, the Bobcats had played a great all around game limiting possessions by controlling the clock and executing expertly on the defensive side of the ball on their way to earning their 4th shutout of the year.
The JV “White” Bobcats move to 4-2 on the season and await a trip to Lumberton next Thursday in a rematch of Week 4’s routing of the Raiders.
