Some big games in Week 3. None bigger than Bridge City traveling to Orangefield in what could be the most evenly matched Bayou Bowl ever. Fewest turnovers wins. WOS is in a familiar spot at 1-1 which is where they were last year when they got a big win over Waco LaVega that seemed to carry over the rest of the season.
LCM is in a similar spot at 0-2. They beat Iowa last year in Wk. 3 and cruised to an undefeated district title. Now they travel to Louisiana looking for the same result. We’re also interested in the Lumberton/Jasper score as the districts start to take shape.
Battle of Unbeatens includes Nederland at Silsbee, PNG at LaPorte, and Hightower at Memorial.

Thursday the Orangefield Bobcats faced off against their long-standing rivals, the Bridge City Cardinals. The game kicked off with the Cardinals receiving the ball in plus territory, thanks to an impressive return. However, their initial momentum quickly faltered as they went three and out against a staunch Bobcat defense. This set the tone for what would be a challenging day for the Cardinals offense.
In response, the Bobcats orchestrated a lengthy drive, primarily fueled by explosive runs from Hunter Block. The culmination of this drive came when Dacius Lytle plunged into the end zone from five yards out, putting Orangefield on the board first. The Bobcats offensive line, led by Caleb Walters, showcased their strength, creating openings for their running backs and establishing a rhythm early in the game.
Bridge City attempted to regroup on their next drive and appeared to be making progress in the air. However, their efforts were thwarted when Kolte Morgan forced a crucial fumble, which Logan Anderson swiftly recovered. This timely turnover was critical, especially as the Cardinals were threatening inside the red zone.
Following this exchange, both teams struggled to gain traction, leading to back-to-back series where each offense sputtered. With the clock winding down in the first half, the Bobcats regained possession. After a series of penalties pushed them back, Coach Barbay made a calculated decision to run the ball and maintain their lead heading into halftime, which concluded with Orangefield ahead 7-0.
As the second half commenced, the Bobcats continued to build on their momentum. They effectively moved the ball downfield, resulting in a touchdown reception by Case Comeaux, who caught a pass in the flat and hauled it all the way to paydirt. The Bobcats offense was clicking, and the energy had returned to the visiting sidelines.
The Cardinals struggled on their next possession, culminating in a Mikey Lecea interception that was returned across midfield, giving the Bobcats excellent field position. Seizing the opportunity, Orangefield capitalized on this momentum and drove the ball down the field once again. The drive concluded with a powerful run from Logan Anderson, who crossed into the end zone for another touchdown. In a surprising turn, the Bobcats executed a fake conversion attempt, allowing Major Butler to cross the line for two additional points.
The Bayou Birdies would tack on a late score to break up the shutout, but the Bobcats took down their rival in convincing fashion, 22-7, showcasing their resilience and teamwork throughout the game. The win moves the JV to 3-0. (TJ Reed)
