
Wanda Granger, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, in a local hospice.
She was a native of the Orange, Texas area and had been a resident of Starks for nearly 60 years, moving from Nederland, Texas. Wanda was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Starks. She worked as a nurse for many years for different local doctor’s offices, then went on to work as a Sales Agent for Boise Cascade before she began working for the Louisiana Tourist Information Center as a Travel Advisor. She was an excellent homemaker and was known for her famous mayhaw jelly cakes and her “Blueberry Dream Pies”. She also enjoyed traveling gardening (especially flowers), cooking, canning, making jelly, sewing, attending church socials, and writing letters to her family members. She loved her Lord and Savior and truly had a servant’s heart.
Survivors include her children, Debra Tyler and husband, Frank of Dry Creek, and Jeffrey Granger of Farmerville; her sister, Dora Hoffpauir of Orange, Texas; her grandchildren, Cody, Jessica, Jennifer, and Christopher; eight great-grandchildren, Owen, Gage, Karsyn, Barrett, Bryant, Blaze, Hayes, and Millie; and a great-great-granddaughter, Drew Beck. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Franklin Granger; her parents, Jack and Donalee Yarbrough; her siblings, Jacquelyn Beckham and Jack Yarbrough, Jr.; her grandsons, Frank Tyler III and Benny Tyler; and a great-grandson, Brant Tyler.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in First Baptist Church of Starks. The Revs. Ron Butler and Charlie Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Doyle Cemetery in Starks under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held in the church from 5-8 p.m. Friday and will resume on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Dry Creek Baptist Camp, P.O. Box 580, Dry Creek, LA 70637 or Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211-4196 and in honor of Wanda, please dedicate at least one day a month for a year to do something fun with your family.
