Tuesday is last day to register to vote
As headlines in bold print report the latest poll numbers and TVs blare talking heads analyzing what he said and she said, Americans are inundated with the 2016 presidential race. Tuesday will be the last day to register to vote for those intending to make their mark on the future.
The general election is Tuesday November 8.
Orange County Elections Administrator Tina Barrow said all registration forms must be postmarked by October 11. However, she recommends people take their registration forms to her office, 206 Border Street in Orange, across the street from the county jail. Forms are also available at the county tax assessor-collector’s offices in Orange and Vidor. The offices are open regular weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Barrow said the Texas Secretary of State’s website has voter registration forms online. People may fill out the forms online, but they cannot be emailed. She said to print out the completed form and mail or deliver to her office.
People who need mail-in ballots may call the elections administrator’s office at 409-882-7973. Barrow said only people age 65 and older, the disabled, or people who will be out of town during the election qualify for a mail-in ballot. The secretary of state said the last day to request a ballot by mail is October 28.
Early voting for the election will begin Monday, October 24, and end Friday, November 4.
In Orange County, all the local races will have Republicans running unopposed for their offices. Those positions include U.S. representative, state senator, state representative, sheriff and two county commissioners.
