
Virgil Dean Wilson, aged 91, of the Fairmount Community in Hemphill, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Born on September 21, 1933, in Ozark, Arkansas, to G.W. Wilson and Florine Greene Wilson, Virgil led a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
A proud veteran, Virgil served as an Airman 1st Class in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked as a supervisor for Firestone for many years, demonstrating a strong work ethic and leadership skills. Alongside his beloved wife, Barbara, Virgil owned and operated Wilson’s Marine in Orange and Beaumont for a decade, contributing to the local economy and community.
Virgil was a devoted member of Fairdale Baptist Church and was also a member of the American Legion Post 197 in Hemphill. His passions included fishing, playing cards and dominoes, and working on outboard motors, hobbies that brought him joy and relaxation.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 45 and a half years, Barbara Wilson; his sons, Dean Wilson of Orange, Vance Wilson and wife, Rachel, of Orange, and Jason Lingo and wife, Lisa, of Montgomery; his daughters, LaDeana Aven of Orange and Vicki Sheppard and husband, Gary, of Bronson; and his sister, Georgia Wyatt of Orange. Virgil was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Fairdale Baptist Church in Hemphill, Texas, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Bo Owens and Bro. J.R. McDonald officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time.
Burial will follow at Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Pallbearers include Easton Lingo, Evan Lingo, David Clark, John Vance Wilson, John Thomas Wilson, and Christopher Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Cole Aven, Jonah LeBlanc and Kayden Aven.
