The Vidor ISD has received FEMA approval to rebuild Oak Forest Elementary School, which was flooded during Tropical Storm Harvey last year.
Students at the school have been divided between Pine Forest and Vidor elementary schools.
The district Wednesday announced the cost estimates have been submitted and FEMA last week agreed to the plans. Spokesperson Sally Andrews said the district worked with the consulting firm Disaster Recovery Services to give information showing that damages to the campus were more than 50 percent of the value of the school.
She said the Congressional Office of Legislative Affairs and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will review the submission.
“We will begin the process of planning for the rebuild of Oak Forest Elementary following the completion of these two steps,” Andrews said in a media release. “We look forward to moving forward with a permanent location for our students and helping students reach their goals at a new and improved Oak Forest Elementary School.”
