The Vidor Pirates improved to 3-0 on the season after a 44-7 win over the winless LCM Bears.
The game started 45 minutes late because of lightning in the area and the wet field proved to be an opponent for both teams as they combined for six fumbles and a muff in the first half.
Both teams scored early on big plays. Vidor’s Brad Nunez scampered 74 yards for a score on the Pirates second possession but the two point conversion was missed. LCM responded two plays later on a 75 yard touchdown pass from Homecoming King Adam Pope to sophomore Brendon Pollock. A Kooper Abernathy kick gave the Bears a 7-6 lead.
In the second quarter the Pirates started to find their groove as Zach Dahlenburg ran 45 for a score and a two point conversion to take the 14-7. On their next possession fullback Kelby Odom rumbled 67 yards for a score. A Jackson Lapray kick made it 21-7 and then Lapray added a 37 yard field goal on the last play of the half for a 24-7 lead.
In the second half it was the Pirates defense that stepped up. After tallying 182 yards of offense in the first half, the Pirates “D” held LCM to 15 yards of offense and one first down in the second.
Vidor rolled up 468 yards of offense, lead by Nunez’ 139 yards on 11 carries. The Pirates also did what they do best and that is play keep away. In the third quarter they put together a 12 play drive that took 7:30 minutes off the clock and scored on a one yard TD.
On Friday Vidor opens district at home against Crosby. LCM will travel to Hardin-Jefferson.
