Vidor High School’s Automotive Technology students recently toured the Port Arthur Water Drainage District 7 Plant, where they learned about the district’s massive engines and pumps that control water flow and manage retention ponds across the region.
Students had the opportunity to see first-hand how these powerful machines work together to prevent flooding and support the community’s infrastructure. Following the plant tour, the class visited Lamar Institute of Technology’s Advanced Engine Technology program. There, students explored a wide variety of engines from train and industrial engines to high-performance systems and learned about the advanced training available through LIT’s associate degree program.
They also discovered that the Water Drainage District frequently recruits skilled graduates from LIT’s program, giving students a clear view of the career opportunities available in the field of advanced engine technology.
