At Vidor’s Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, tradition meets creativity every November with an annual “deer hunt” event organized by the facility’s Activities Director. This beloved event brings joy to residents while highlighting the importance of staying active and engaged. This year, the experience was elevated to new heights, thanks to the participation of Vidor High School’s CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) students.
The students enthusiastically embraced their roles, either assisting residents during their “hunt” or donning festive deer costumes, becoming playful targets for Nerf gun hunters. The event served as an exceptional hands-on learning opportunity, allowing students to witness firsthand the positive impact that socialization and physical activity have on residents’ well-being.
From laughter-filled hunts to meaningful interactions, it was clear that everyone involved—students, staff, and residents—had a fantastic time. Activities like this not only enrich the lives of nursing home residents but also offer invaluable lessons to future healthcare professionals about the importance of compassion, creativity, and connection.
These types of events demonstrate how collaboration between our CNA program and community partners fosters a deeper understanding of care and builds bridges across generations. Thank you to the Oakwood Manor team for hosting such a memorable activity and to our students for their enthusiasm and dedication!
