Verna Faye Hodge (Edwards) passed away on October 23, 2024, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 86. She was born in Garrison, Texas, daughter to the late Vernon L. Edwards and Bessie Faye Edwards.
Verna Faye was a dedicated daughter, sister, and wonderful wife and mother. She was a charter member of North Orange Baptist Church for 71 years. Verna loved to sing in her church choir, and enjoyed hobbies such as cooking, reading, shopping, camping, and traveling. She also cherished spending time with her family.
In her career, Verna worked full-time at home during her children’s early years and later entered the workforce during their juvenile years. She worked at the Orange County Probation Department, Orange County Auditor’s Department, and retired from the Orange County Drainage District as office manager. She was a hardworking individual who valued her family above immensely.
Verna leaves behind a loving family, including her son Kenneth Wayne Hodge and wife Kathy, daughter Rhonda Shores and husband Tim, grandchildren Melanie Singeltary and husband Andrew, Chris Hodge and wife Lauren, Macey Evans, Meagan Steele and husband Daniel, Matthew Shores, and great-grandchildren Paisley Davidson, Penelope Evan, Maddy Steele, Michael Steele, and Natalie Steele. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Lewis Gerald Edwards and wife Jane Edwards, sister Sandra Kaye Waits, and nieces and nephews. She was sister-in-law to the late Gus Waits.
Verna’s husband of 57 years, Kenneth M. Hodge, preceded her in death. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The memorial service will be held at Cold Springs Baptist Church in Garrison, Texas on November 2, 2024. Visitation will at 10:00 am, followed by service at 11:00 am with graveside following.
Verna will be remembered for her kind heart, love for her family, and dedication to her faith in Jesus Christ.
