Velma Orene Pelt passed away on January 2, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with her loving husband and daughter by her side, as she peacefully graduated to Heaven.
Velma was born on September 14, 1934, in Florence, Louisiana, to Katherine and Thomas Coburn. She graduated from Little Cypress High School and was a lifelong member of North Orange Baptist Church. She was also a devoted member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 214.
On March 2, 1958, Velma married the love of her life, Billy Ray Pelt, in Orange, Texas. Early in her career, she worked at Sholars Drug before beginning a long and fulfilling career at First National Bank in downtown Orange, which later became Wells Fargo Bank. Velma worked in loan operations for over 33 years, where she was well known for her kindness and love of visiting with customers. She was voted one of Orange’s “Best of the Best” many times.
Velma had a deep love for her roses and cherished her church Sunday school class. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured time spent with her family. She was known for her beautiful complexion and was truly beautiful both inside and out.
Velma especially loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending the last three years of her life living in Yukon, Oklahoma, surrounded by family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Coburn De Leon and Thomas Coburn; her brothers, Perry, Chester, and her twin brother, Oscar Coburn; and her sister, Thelma Williams.
Velma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Billy Ray Pelt; her daughter, Gayla Trevino, and son-in-law, Martin Trevino, of Spring, Texas; her granddaughter, Bethany Babcock, and husband, Kyle Babcock, of Yukon, Oklahoma; and her three great-grandchildren, Grayson, Addison, and Reese.
Private family services were held at Yukon Cemetery in Yukon, Oklahoma, where she was laid to rest.
