Pinehurst City Council accepted Alderman Johnny Asevedo’s resignation during the Tuesday night meeting. Asevedo served one year on the council. No reason was given for his resignation at the meeting.
Before the council went into a closed session to interview potential candidates to appoint to fill the position, Joey Vance spoke during the citizen comments section of the meeting concerning his willingness to help the city in any way.
“I am here to show my support,” Vance said. “I am here to help in any way. When I saw bout the funds needed for the Fire Department – that is scary. We need that. I am willing to help out with drives if needed.”
Later during the meeting, Vance said he would be willing to be considered for the now open seat.
After a short closed session, Vance was appointed and sworn in as Alderman.
He was appointed once before when TW Permenter was appointed Mayor. Vance served until the next election in 2021 when Asevedo won the seat.
Joe King, a resident of Pinehurst, attended his first city council meeting, “To bring information.”
“The council is doing an excellent job,” King said. “I wanted to bring to your attention the corner of King Arthur and Old Castle where the street has caved in at the corner. I wanted to bring it to your attention out if concern it could cause a bad accident.”
City Administrator Jerry Hood said they were aware of it and would contact King on Wednesday concerning the issue.
Council also discussed applying for grants including one to help improve the park on West Park. A Public Hearing for submitting an application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Local Grant Program was held during the meeting. No citizens spoke for or against the application. The council approved the resolution for the submission of the grant application.
