A Glimpse of the Life of Reverend Van Edward Jordan, Sr.
Van Edward Jordan, Sr. was born on November 2, 1965, in Kirbyville, Texas, to the late Helen Frederick and Willie Jordan. Van was an Orange, Texas, resident for twenty-eight years before moving to Port Arthur, Texas. He accepted Christ and was baptized early at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Van was a First Sixth Street Baptist Church member. On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, he went home to be with his Savior.
Van was a proud graduate of West Orange-Stark High School Class of 1984. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army in the infantry. Once Van was honorably discharged from the Army, he attended the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service for a diploma in Funeral Service. He pursued a career as a mortician and funeral service director. Van’s love for Christ influenced him to become a preacher. Van was ordained as a minister on July 5, 1997, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church by the Reverend C.W. Crawford. While spreading the Word of Christ, Van started his own construction company, Jordan Construction. He helped restore many homes in the Golden Triangle. He was also the owner of RJ’s Clean Car Clinic. Van was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Watching his older brother Donald (Jerry) ride, Van fell in love with motorcycles. He decided to get his motorcycle and rode bikes for more than twenty years. Van was the Director of the Cowboy (Harley Owner Group) HOG Chapters 4974 and 5298.
Van put his heart and soul into the HOG Chapter. Van put together the 500 Ride for Life, he worked to get the HOG Chapter to Milwaukee with Jessie Clay, at Thanksgiving and Christmas, he led the charge to raise money for our Veterans with a Hands Up for the Holidays, he led the charge to get the bike raffled off to give the chapter money. Van and his best friend, JW Dalton, worked with the City of Orange to approve a future event, 500 for Life on the River and Corey’s Story. He rode all over Texas to share Corey’s Story. Van helped with the Blue Santa committee. He did so much and more. Van prayed with people when asked. Van befriended many area clubs and chapters to participate in HOG events and theirs. He loved life, and it showed. He loved the Lord, and it showed.
Van began volunteering in his community. He was a part of The Neighborhood for Life Committee. Van volunteered to pick up stranded people in his truck during Hurricane Harvey. He was a member of the Masons Group to lead a change in the community. Van organized Hoops with a Higher Calling to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. He was a member of the Hollywood Cemetery and Vietnam Wall Committees. As a member of the Vietnam Wall committee, he encouraged riders to complete their captain’s certification so they would be able to lead the Vietnam Wall. Van dedicated his life to spreading the word about motorcycle awareness and safety. He partnered with TXDOT to campaign Look Twice, Save a Life and Look Twice, Save Me. Van also worked with others to form the Texas Patriot for Vets.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Frederick and Willie A.C. Jordan II; brother, Rev. Willie Jordan III; nephews, Corey J. Sennet, Bryant Brown Jr., Craig Schexnayder, and Jean-Pierre Kelly; mother-in-law, Deloris Briscoe; sister-in-law, Pamela Broussard, and beloved aunt, Beatrice Pete.
Van leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Samantha Briscoe Jordan; sons, Van E. Jordan Jr. (Tyesha) of Huntsville, Texas, Jevon Jordan and Jaylan Jordan of Port Arthur, Texas; daughters, Vonkisha Winbush (Jordan) of Houston, Texas, Vanquanisha Jordan of Atascocita, Texas, and Dani Willis of Houston, Texas; god-daughter, Jocelynn Randle of Beaumont, Texas; brothers, Donald Kelly (Gwendolyn) of Angelo, Texas, Ivan Frederick of Beaumont, Texas, Patrick Jordan, Sr. (Shunnette) of Beaumont, Texas, Stuart Jordan (Lela), Donnell Daughtery, Beaumont, Texas, and Robert Donatto Sr. (Harolyn) of Palm Bay, Florida; sisters, Dr. Glenda J. Sutton (Dr. James E.) of Haymarket, Virginia, Deborah Frederick of Houston, Texas, and Terri J. Singleton (Rev. Sammie) of Beaumont, Texas; and grandchildren, Chance Shane Jordan Edwards, Parker Grace Preston, and Kai Blaise Jordan; sister-in-law, Patrina Briscoe and brother-in-law, Anthony Briscoe (Tina); best friend, JW Dalton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his beloved HOG Chapter.
Services will be Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Paradise Baptist Church, 4390 Fannett Rd. in Beaumont. The visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. until the Celebration of Life services at 3:00 P.M. Van will be entombed with Military Honors at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas. The funeral professionals at Comeaux Community Mortuary & Cremations in Beaumont, Texas, will handle funeral services.
