A celebration of Vada Marie Turner’s life, age 86, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 6, 2016, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas with interment to follow at the Magnolia Cemetery in community of Holly Springs. Visitation will be Thursday, May 5 from 5:00-8:00 P.M.
A native of Wyatt, Louisiana and a former resident of Hemphill, Texas Vada lived in Jasper since 1974. She married James Loran Turner in Greenville, Mississippi August 4, 1945. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, raising flowers and plants and being an auxiliary hospital volunteer. She was active at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jasper, participating in the Pilgrims group and her Sunday school class, and was a member of the Women’s Mission Union and choirs in many of the churches she served in. She loved her family and church family.
Vada is survived by her husband of 70 years, Reverend James L. “Jim” Turner; sons, Dwight A. Turner & wife Brenda of Buna, James E. Turner of Jasper, and Barry K. Turner of Jasper; 7 grandchildren, Kristen Marie Turner, Joshua Allen Turner & wife Amanda, Tyler Lloyd Turner, James Barton Turner & wife Litzy, Melanie Ann Barclay & husband Seth, Lydia Danielle Perkins and Timothy Joe Turner; as well as 8 great-grandchildren, Branson Allen Turner, Dayton Nicole Turner, Dallas Lenae Turner, June Evelyn Turner, Mia Isabella Turner, Andrew Christopher Turner, Jayden James Turner, and Elena Leighton Barclay.
She was preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Minnie Mae Hobby; 4 brothers, Royce, Grover, Delbert, and W.J. Hobby; 2 sisters, Mary Crumpler and Pauline Watts; and by her grandson-in-law, Joe Perkins.
