Hunter Uzzle will be joining the Southland Conference as a member of the Northwestern State Demons out of Natchitoches, La.
The former Bridge City catcher will take his talents to the Demons, who are welcoming a new coach. Bobby Barbier was an NSU assistant last season but was promoted last month after Lane Burroughs took the head coaching job at Louisiana Tech. Barbier is an NSU alum, playing for then coach Mitch Gaspard when the Demons won the SLC title in 2005.
Barbier told KOGT, “We are very excited to add Hunter to our team. He is what we look for behind the plate in that he is a high energy catcher that really runs the game. On top of that, he is a switch hitter that we think can be a very productive hitter in our system.”
The Demons were 33-24 last season (20-10 in the SLC).
Uzzle played his first season of college ball at Panola after graduating from BC in 2014. He transferred to Easter Oklahoma State this season and helped the Mountaineers win the NJCAA Region II Baseball Tournament.
The move for Uzzle also cuts travel time for parents and friends from seven and a half hours to a three hour trip. Definitely a win-win.
