The Texas Department of Public Transportation is planning a major traffic change for MacArthur Drive that will create a sidewalk-bike trail lane. MacArthur is part of Texas Highway 87.
MacArthur currently has a total of seven lanes. Six lanes are for vehicle traffic with three each eastbound and westbound. A turning lane is in the middle.
TxDOT spokeswoman Sarah Dupre said the plan is to make two lanes in each direction for vehicle traffic from Adams Bayou to 28th Street. The outside lanes will be converted to a sidewalk-bike lane for pedestrians and bike rides. The turn lane will remain.
Dupre said the plans are for the project to go to bidding in October.
