Less than three weeks ago the Texas Department of Transportation opened the new extensions to the Interstate 10 service roads from 16th Street to Bob Hall Road across the railroad tracks. At that time KOGT reported the changes for drivers operating their vehicles at the intersection of 16th Street or State Highway 87 and the new service roads of the interstate.
One change that effected traffic flow was the options allowed for the three lanes of the eastbound service road. Only the left lane was allowed to turn left and go north on Highway 87 while the left lane and the center lane were allowed to go straight on the new one-way extension of the service road.
During the week before Christmas TxDOT has reversed itself and changed the lane markings back to what they were before the extensions were opened. Drivers in the left lane now can only turn left while those in the middle lane may also turn left to go north on Highway 87 or continue straight on the service road towards Bob Hall Road.
Sarah Dupre with TxDOT has indicated the plans for the interstate construction project include eventually having a turnaround lane added from the eastbound service road to the westbound service road near Meeks Drive. When that is completed the lane markings will probably change again.
