Two Vidor police officers on Wednesday were presented with Life Saving awards because of their quick action in giving emergency medical attention to a woman who had shot herself in the chest.
The officers are Manny Castillo and Dillon LaPoint. Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said on March 22, the officers were sent to help with a woman who was suffering a mental health crisis and attempted suicide.
The two officers used tactical aid including quick-clotting bandages until Acadian Ambulance arrived. The woman survived.
The chief said Castillo is an Army combat veteran and used his personal first aid kit.
The ceremony to honor the two was held in Vidor City Hall.
