At 10:57 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a shooting near the 3700 block of Granger Lane in Orangefield.
Due to the close proximity of the reported shooting to the Orangefield Independent School District and local daycares, school district officials and daycares were notified, and lockdown procedures were initiated.
Deputies arrived on the scene and located a 44-year-old female victim with an apparent gunshot wound who was transported to the hospital. Deputies learned the suspect fled the scene after shooting the victim. Deputies searched the area and observed a male matching the suspect’s description on a property further down Granger Lane. As deputies approached the property, the person matching the suspect’s description ran into a structure on the property. Deputies approached the structure and heard one gunshot. Deputies then entered the structure and located one deceased male with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
After securing the area and determining there was no longer a public safety threat, deputies notified officials with Orangefield ISD and daycares.
Deputies are processing the crime scene and collecting evidence and witness statements. This investigation is ongoing and more information will be released at a later time.
